Date: Mon, 15 Aug 2005 19:23:48 +0300 (EEST) From: Harry Sintonen To: Stephen Fellner Subject: Request to comply with General Public License Hello! I hereby request you to send me the full source code of avcodec.library and DvPlayer so I can exercise my right to build my own versions. As both avcodec.library 51.34 and DvPlayer 0.43 are GPL, so I am sure you have no problems complying. Details ------- avcodec.library 51.34 includes statically linked liba52 which is GPL. Thus avcodec.library is GPL. Here is the evidence that liba52 is included in the avcodec.library: http://www.iki.fi/sintonen/dvplayer_gpl/avcodec_gpl.txt Further, the manual of the DvPlayer 0.43 (DvPlayer_Manual.pdf) states: "2.2 Requirements [...] avcodec.library 51.34 or newer is also required. This library is available for download on the DvPlayer web page." "3. Installation [...] DvPlayer requires avcodec.library 51.34 or higher. You must download and install it also. It can be downloaded from the DvPlayer webpage." and "2.3 Features [...] DvPlayer supports many audio and video codecs via avcodec.library, including MPEG 1/2, DiVX, XVID, MJPG, Cinepak, Indeo Video, PCM, MP2, MP3, AC3 (stereo, 5.1) and more..." ***************** DvPlayer 0.43 links avcodec.library dynamically, thus DvPlayer is GPL aswell. For reference, see: http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#TOCLinkingWithGPL Especially: http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#IfLibraryIsGPL http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#TOCMereAggregation http://www.gnu.org/licenses/gpl-faq.html#GPLAndPlugins You must provide full source code, including header files, scripts, makefiles and such (barring system components or compiler) to build avcodec.library 51.34 and DvPlayer 0.43. I can accept the source code for example via FTP, HTTP, email (sintonen@iki.fi), or by regular mail to address: Harry Sintonen Kotipolku 30 FIN-48710 Karhula FINLAND Let me know which method (or some other) of delivery you wish to use. Confirm arrival of this email by replying it. Refusal to comply will result in reporting the GPL License violation to copyright holder(s) of each breached component, and Free Software Foundation.
