== Burning DVD's in Linux == DVD burning should work with most DVD-burners available and most common, modern distros. Success with Gigabyte technology GO-W0404A DVD+-R/RW (160 EUR 2003-12-11). === Installation === Connected DVD+-R/RW to computer as IDE secondary slave. Installed k3b, updated dvd+rw-tools (growisofs>=5.10). Started k3b as root, blanked dvd+rw, chose some directories and burned. It worked, dvd was burned successfully. My dvd burner could also read the dvd. === Caveats === I had to find a newer dvd+rw-tools rpm from rpmfind.net before k3b agreed to burn the dvd. Probably related to fedora.us version of k3b. My older dvd read-only drive did not recognize the dvd+rw, and I have read that it is very common. Probably related to dvd+rw in general. $ cat /etc/redhat-release Red Hat Linux release 9 (Shrike) $ rpm -q dvd+rw-tools k3b kernel cdrecord mkisofs dvd+rw-tools-5.13.4.7.4-2.9 k3b-0.10.2-0.fdr.2.rh90 kernel-2.4.20-20.9 cdrecord-2.0-11.9.1 mkisofs-2.0-11.9.1 http://k3b.sourceforge.net/ http://fy.chalmers.se/~appro/linux/DVD+RW/ ftp://rpmfind.net/linux/contrib/libc6/i386/dvd+rw-tools-5.13.4.7.4-2.9.i386.rpm Tero Karvinen http://iki.fi/karvinen
