Isofix retrofit

Seat cushion This story illustrates, how to retrofit Isofix anchors in a 2004 E320 CDI T.

First you will need to get the Isofix anchors, screws and pop rivets. It is a good idea to use screws and rivets with the Mercedes-Benz part numbers. Since they are original parts, you can be sure they are designed for this application.
Seat cushion I am emphasizing the importance of using the right kind of material, since the parts we are using here must be strong enough not to break if you have an accident! Also, please notice that every anchor has its own part number. They are not universal.

Now, flip the seat cushion up...
Hole in the liner ...and you will see four holes in the liner. There are two on the left and two on the right. These are there for the Isofix anchors.
Remove fasteners Remove the plastic plug and unscrew the nut holding the liner.
Isofix anchor points Remove the liner and you will find ready-made holes for pop rivets and screws in the body metal.
Anchors fixed Remove the seat back and bolt on the anchors. Please notice that you will need "the mother of all industrial standard pop rivet tools" in this work. Supermarket quality tools will not be strong enough for the original quality steel rivets.

And put everything back together again.
Try your baby seat Try if your Isofix baby seat works. Depending on the design of the Isofixes you have in your child seat and your upholstery, it is possible that the project is now ready and the seat clicks to the anchors. Or we need to continue a bit, as I had to do.
Seat cushion modification My car has nappa leather upholstery. The material is pretty thick. Because of this, the seat cushion did not let the "hooks" of the Mercedes-Benz Duo Plus Isofix seat to reach the anchors. Or more exactly, it was not usable. Because of this, the seat cushion had to be modified. This was done by a professional...
Result ...and the result looks very good. Thank you to Design Eugen! Great work!
